In Memoriam
On October 9th, 2011, we lost a dear friend and valuable colleague in Dr. Robert Buckman. We are so fortunate to have welcomed him and shake his hand one more time before his passing.
Among countless other accomplishments, Dr. Buckman’s groundbreaking approach to dealing with illness and disability made it possible for many people to cope with circumstances which seemed impossible. His ideas and words lit up many dark lives.
We will remember him for his humanitarian heart, his legacy of perseverance, his sharp humour and his dedication to equality and peace for all.

After the Conference

The conference was Phase 1 of a 3 Phase initiative for disABILITY Employment in Yukon and the north. Phase 2 is under way and will concentrate on education and engagement of Yukon employers. Find out more at our BLOG which is coming soon.

About the Conference
Six Steps to Success brought together employers, government agencies, service providers and experts in the field of disability and employment to create a unique opportunity to teach and to learn. With your input, we will build upon current best practices and develop strategies to increase the representation of people with disabilities in the workforce. With particular emphasis on implementing these strategies in the north and in smaller communities, we will evaluate and adapt these best practices to suit the needs of the delegates to the conference.
The six themes of the conference reflect six critical issues necessary for success that have been identified during our research into best practices in the field of employment and disability across North America. For delegates, the development of additional skills in these areas will result in improved employment outcomes for job-seekers and employees with disabilities and help to address current labour market challenges in innovative and effective ways.
